Cube Aim SLX 2027 — Shimano XT Shifting on a Hardtail Budget
The 2027 Cube Aim SLX sits at the top of the Aim range, and it earns that position with a genuinely surprising drivetrain. Shimano’s XT rear derailleur is normally found on bikes costing considerably more, and here it runs a wide-range 1×12 setup on Cube’s High Performance Aluminium frame. As a result, the Aim SLX shifts with a precision that belies its price, whether you’re riding Forest gravel or venturing onto proper singletrack.
Shimano XT 1×12 Drivetrain
The Shimano XT RD-M8200 rear derailleur is the standout component here. It pairs with a Deore shifter and a 10-51T Deore cassette to give a 510% gear range, which is enough for almost any climb you’ll meet in the UK. Because XT derailleurs use a robust clutch mechanism, the chain stays quiet and secure over rough ground. It’s also a component that rewards long-term ownership, since spares and service parts are available everywhere.
Remote Lockout Suspension Fork
The SR Suntour XCT 30 ATB Disc fork provides 100mm of travel with a handlebar-mounted remote lockout. That means you can firm the fork up for road and fire-road sections without taking a hand off the bars, then open it again the moment the surface turns rough. Consequently, the Aim SLX is noticeably more efficient than a basic hardtail when your ride mixes tarmac with trail.
Aluminium Frame with Internal Routing and Size Split
Cube’s Aluminium Lite frame uses double-butted tubing, a tapered head tube and internally routed cables, with provision for a dropper post if you want to add one. There are mounts for a Semi-Integrated Carrier 2.1 and a flat-mount kickstand, so the bike works as a commuter as well as a trail bike. Size Split pairs 27.5in wheels with XS and S frames and 29in wheels with M, L and XL for consistent handling in every size.
Acid EX25 Tubeless-Ready Rims
The Acid EX25 rims are tubeless ready, so converting later is straightforward and inexpensive. Running tubeless drops rolling resistance, cuts punctures and lets you use lower pressures for more grip. Paired with 2.25in Impac Smartpac tyres and Shimano hydraulic disc brakes, it’s a well-judged package for year-round riding.
