CUBE Bottle Cage HPP – Engineered Simplicity for Perfect Bottle Retention
The CUBE HPP bottle cage proves that sometimes the simplest components benefit most from thoughtful engineering. Whilst bottle cages might seem straightforward, the difference between a mediocre cage and an excellent one becomes apparent on rough trails, steep climbs, and long rides. The HPP delivers secure bottle retention combined with effortless access exactly when you need it.
Improved Design for Easy Handling
The HPP features an optimised cage geometry that solves the classic bottle cage dilemma: cages that grip too loosely allow bottles to bounce out on rough terrain, whilst cages that grip too tightly make bottle access frustratingly difficult during rides. CUBE’s engineers have refined the HPP’s profile to provide the ideal balance.
The cage’s carefully shaped arms create multiple contact points that distribute grip pressure evenly around the bottle circumference. This means your bottle sits securely without requiring excessive insertion force. You can confidently insert and remove bottles with one hand whilst riding, without fighting the cage or taking your eyes off the trail.
The generous entry flare at the top of the cage guides bottles smoothly into position, even when you’re not looking directly at the cage. This seemingly small detail makes a significant difference when you’re trying to replace your bottle during a technical descent or whilst navigating traffic.
Secure Grip That Inspires Confidence
Once your bottle is seated, the HPP holds it firmly through all riding conditions. The precisely engineered grip tension ensures bottles stay put over rough surfaces, during bunny hops, and when bikes are leaning against walls or lying in vehicle boots. You won’t experience that sinking feeling of hearing your bottle clatter away down a rocky descent because the cage failed to hold it.
The HPP works reliably with all standard bottle sizes, from 500ml bottles for short rides to 750ml bottles for longer adventures. The cage accommodates bottles with varying diameters, including insulated stainless steel bottles that tend to be larger than standard plastic bottles.
Extensive Colour Range
With over 25 colour options available, the HPP lets you coordinate your bottle cages with your bike’s frame, components, or personal style preferences. Whether you want cages that blend discreetly with your frame colour or prefer bold contrast colours that make a statement, the HPP range has you covered.
This extensive colour palette reflects CUBE’s attention to aesthetic details. Your bike’s appearance matters, and matching or complementing bottle cages contribute to a cohesive, professional look. The colour options include classic blacks and whites, vibrant reds and blues, subtle greys, and distinctive CUBE team colours.
The colour is integrated throughout the plastic material rather than being a surface coating, so it won’t chip or wear off with use. Your cages will maintain their appearance through years of regular riding and cleaning.
Lightweight Plastic Construction
At just 36 grammes per cage, the HPP adds minimal weight to your bike whilst delivering secure bottle retention. This lightweight characteristic makes the HPP particularly appealing for riders conscious of bike weight, whether you’re racing cross-country, tackling epic climbs, or simply appreciate a responsive, nimble-feeling bike.
The plastic construction offers several practical advantages beyond light weight. Unlike metal cages, plastic won’t corrode from exposure to moisture, salt, or spilled energy drinks. The material won’t scratch your bottles’ finishes, and it remains comfortable to touch in both freezing winter conditions and hot summer weather.
The durable plastic formulation resists impacts and flexing without permanent deformation. If the cage takes a knock from rocks, posts, or other bikes in the garage, it flexes and returns to shape rather than bending permanently like some metal cages. This resilience contributes to long-term reliability and consistent bottle retention.
Universal Mounting Compatibility
The HPP uses the standard two-bolt mounting pattern that fits virtually all bikes. The mounting holes accommodate standard M5 bottle cage bolts, and the bolt pattern spacing matches industry standards. This universal compatibility means you can use HPP cages on road bikes, mountain bikes, gravel bikes, touring bikes, and even many kids’ bikes with bottle cage mounts.
Installation is straightforward with a 4mm hex key. The cage mounts securely against your frame’s bottle cage bosses without requiring washers or spacers in most applications. The mounting area has sufficient material thickness to prevent cracking around the bolt holes even when firmly tightened.
Proven Performance
CUBE developed the HPP through extensive testing and refinement across their bike range. The cage has proven itself on CUBE bikes ridden in all conditions, from smooth tarmac to technical singletrack, from casual commutes to competitive racing. This real-world validation ensures the HPP meets the practical demands of actual riding rather than just performing well on paper.
The HPP’s design reflects feedback from CUBE’s sponsored racing teams, product testers, and everyday riders who depend on their equipment working reliably. This input shaped the cage’s grip characteristics, durability, and ease of use.
Installation Notes
The HPP mounts to standard bottle cage mounts on your frame. Most bikes have two sets of mounting points: one on the downtube and one on the seat tube, allowing you to carry two bottles. Some bikes also have mounting points on the underside of the downtube or behind the seat tube for additional bottle capacity.
For optimal bottle access, mount the cage with the open side facing the direction you find most comfortable for bottle insertion and removal. Most riders prefer bottles inserted from the side (horizontal insertion) on the downtube, and from above (vertical insertion) on the seat tube.
Tighten mounting bolts firmly but don’t overtighten, as this could crack the plastic cage material. Snug hand-tight with a hex key is sufficient – the cage won’t shift during normal use.
