Bosch has just launched the SmartphoneGrip Vertical — a brand new addition to the Bosch Smart System accessory range that turns your smartphone into an e-bike display in portrait mode. It's a genuinely clever upgrade for anyone who uses their phone for navigation on rides, and it's available to order now through New Forest Cycling.
Why Portrait Mode Makes a Difference
If you've ever tried to navigate on a bike using a phone mounted horizontally, you'll know the frustration — landscape view cuts off the route ahead and gives you a frustratingly narrow window of the map. The SmartphoneGrip Vertical flips that by holding your phone upright, giving you a much taller view of the route in apps like the Bosch eBike Flow app and komoot. You can see further ahead, plan better, and ride with more confidence — without taking your eyes off the road for longer than you need to.
📱 Portrait navigation, finally done properly
The Bosch eBike Flow app's ride screen shows speed, battery level, range, and arrival time all in one place. In portrait view, the navigation map section is significantly taller, so you get a much better picture of what's coming up on your route — particularly useful on longer rides through the New Forest lanes and bridleways.
Charges Your Phone While You Ride
One of the standout features is the built-in charging. Your phone draws power directly from the e-bike battery via the SmartphoneGrip Vertical — so you can run GPS navigation and the eBike Flow app without worrying about your battery draining away. Charging works in two ways: wirelessly via induction (5W) or wired via USB-C (7.5W). Just bear in mind that the USB-C cable isn't included in the box.
A Secure Hold on Any Surface
Two adjustable clamps hold the phone firmly at the top and bottom, and a rubber coating protects the back of your device. Bosch has tested this on cobblestones and gravel paths — it's stable enough for real-world riding conditions, not just smooth tarmac. All buttons and ports on the sides of your phone stay accessible too, so you don't lose any functionality. If you want extra peace of mind when leaving the bike parked up, an optional locking screw is included in the box to prevent the grip from being released by simply pressing the button.
Fits Your Existing Bosch Mount
Here's the really convenient part — the SmartphoneGrip Vertical uses the same display mount as the Kiox 300, Kiox 500, and the standard SmartphoneGrip. If you already have one of those fitted on your Bosch e-bike, you simply remove the existing unit and click the Vertical into place. No extra bracket, no drilling, no fuss. That makes it a straightforward retrofit for the vast majority of Bosch Smart System e-bikes already on the road.
Mounting position is flexible too — the SmartphoneGrip Vertical can be fitted in front of, on, or alongside the stem, and the angle is adjustable to suit your riding position. Works With Your Control Unit
You don't need to touch the screen while riding. The SmartphoneGrip Vertical is compatible with the LED Remote, Mini Remote, and Purion 200, so you can switch between ride data and navigation, change riding modes, or control the eBike Flow app features without taking your hands off the bars.
